Swordfish 30

Information about the Swordfish 30 MK2

The Swordfish 30 is a modern fast planing hull which, with the aid of a varied range of superstructure mouldings, can be adapted to most of the requirements of the modern day fisherman.

It is primarily designed for net, line and pot fishing as well as angling and charter. However, it would also fair comparably for other uses such as pilot, diving, crew support, etc.

The Swordfish 30 is a planing hull with a medium "V" constant deadrise of 15 degrees. The bow section has a high sheer full radius enabling complete use of length and beam. With the aid of a hard chine, it manages to keep a fine entry on the waterline to help reduce the effect of impact, (more apparent in dory and cathedral designs). It has a deep fore-foot to prevent blow-away and assist with drifting & working static lines.

The Swordfish 30 is built to a very high standard, using knowledge accumulated over many years in building traditional wooden craft with a finesse gained from fitting-out luxury pleasure craft. The hull is constructed with a combination of chop-strand and woven roving mats. This is of a permutation recommended to Lychett Bay Marine, (upon our request), by Lloyds Register of Shipping, *. The standard hull lay up is designed to achieve a speed of 35 knots, however, if this ultimate performance is not required a lay up satisfactory to speeds of up to 25 knots can be arranged at a reduced price. The bull lay up is designed to give the shell itself a tremendous strength factor, therefore enabling the framing and longitudinals to be of lesser importance and giving more use of interior space. This is more apparent in the topside being of a sandwich construction.

The deck is constructed of a G.R.P.Ilaminated ply form onto softwood beams and longitudinals and is covered with a non-slip gel finish. The deck also has a camber for added strength and lays aft to transom and aft quarter freeing ports. All deck hatches are flush G.R.P. type, with the option of a raised fish hold hatch. The engine room is vented through a trunking system from the wheelhouse roof to transom out vents, thus preventing needless engine noise on deck. There are many options available for wheelhouse and gunwale mouldings to cater for different, individual needs. Fitting out of the forward accommodation and wheelhouse are again to personal preference.

* This does not imply that the vessel is Lloyds approved, however, upon request a complete vessel can be built to Lloyds approval.
